Course Description:

While logos are the primary expression of a brand, so much more thought goes into developing a strong identity system; this course will look at how designers infuse brands with meaning and cover the logo development process from creative storytelling to technical execution.

The Logo Design program walks through a typical branding project. We will learn research techniques and how to develop an idea into a final concept. Students will work with a client to develop and deliver an identity system at the completion of the course.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to communicate effectively with clients to determine their needs and translate problems into creative solutions

  • Develop techniques for research, collecting inspiration, and sketching

  • Understand how to organize, evolve, and refine ideas into final directions

  • Acquire skills to create and render designs digitally, and how to package projects for clients and in real world applications

Course requirements/expectations:

  • This course requires the use of vector based software and text-formatting applications. An initial familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign is preferred. If students have not taken a Foundations Course before, they must demonstrate an understanding of basic visual design techniques and software, or take the Adobe Creative Suite tutorial course in conjunction with this class.

  • Students will be expected to complete regular homework assignments and submit projects at the end of the course.
